CHAPLET OF DIVINE MERCY

The Chaplet of The Divine Mercy is an intercessory prayer prayed on ordinary rosary beads. It is typically prayed at 3:00 p.m., the traditional hour of Christ’s death, and also as a Novena leading up to Divine Mercy Sunday. It may be recited in about ten minutes or sung using various melodies.

Throughout the 1930s, Faustina Maria Kowalska, a Polish nun of the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy, received visions of Jesus revealing to her the depths of His love and mercy. As she received these revelations, she diligently wrote them down in her diary. During one such revelation in 1935, Jesus dictated to her the words of a prayer, referred today as the Chaplet, instructing her pray it unceasingly and to encourage others to do the same. He also attached to its prayerful recitation a myriad of extraordinary promises:

Encourage souls to say the Chaplet which I have given you (1541). Whoever will recite it will receive great mercy at the hour of death (687). When they say this Chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person, not as the just Judge but as the Merciful Savior (1541).

Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this Chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My infinite mercy (687). I desire to grant unimaginable graces to those souls who trust in My mercy (687). Through the Chaplet you will obtain everything, if what you ask for is compatible with My will. (1731)

Since Faustina's death in 1938, knowledge of and devotion to the Chaplet of Divine Mercy has spread throughout the world.  Thousands upon thousands attest to its power, which has assuredly contributed to the consensus that the recitation or singing of the Chaplet of Mercy has become one of the most popular pious practices in the Church today. Through the Divine Mercy Chaplet, we ask for God’s forgiveness, healing, and grace for ourselves, the world, souls in purgatory, and those needing conversion.
